Some of those gigs are at jazz festivals, and threads for a fair number of those jazz festivals appear in JT's Jazz Festivals forum. In almost every festival's thread, one can find info. on the festival's lineup (as well as a link to the festival's website).

More NYC Gigs for ECM Artists

Whether accidentally or intentionally, I may have omitted some gigs from this list (which, like the NYT's non-ECM-centric list, is in alphabetical order). So for more information, please visit the NYT webpage linked below, and

An unusual gig this Thursday in Chicago. The NRG Ensemble plus actor Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) recreate "The Hal Russell Story":

Two Upcoming Gigs in Washington, DC

As of August 4, the shows above aren't listed on Bohemian Caverns' website yet, but Transparent Productions' scheduling is reliable. If you buy tickets on the phone, you can mention that you're calling about "one of Bobby Hill's shows."

ECM-centric excerpts from Nate Chinen's list:

Kris Davis Trio Plays Standards (Saturday, August 9, 2014)

The name of the booking is instructive, because Kris Davis — a pianist of fearless instinct and deep insight — has not made a public habit of dipping into the standard songbook. Her partners, well suited to the mission at hand, are the bassist Michael Formanek and the drummer Billy Drummond. At 9 and 10:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street, Greenwich Village, 212-989-9319, corneliastreetcafe.com; $10 cover, with a $10 minimum. (Chinen)

Swallow-Talmor-Nussbaum (Wednesday, August 13, 2014)

. . . [A]
collective post-bop trio, made up of the bassist Steve Swallow, the saxophonist Ohad Talmor and the drummer Adam Nussbaum. . . . At 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., Jazz Standard, 116 East 27th Street, Manhattan, 212-576-2232, jazzstandard.net; $20. (Chinen)

ECM-centric excerpts from Nate Chinen's list:

★ Tootie Heath, Ethan Iverson, Ben Street

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Albert (Tootie) Heath . . . presides as a resident sage in this trio. Featuring a pair of collaborators in their 40s, Mr. Iverson on piano and Mr. Street on bass. . . . At 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., Jazz Standard, 116 East 27th Street, Manhattan, 212-576-2232, jazzstandard.net; $25. (Chinen)

Irabagon Festival
Friday, August 29–Saturday, August 30, 2014

A smart young saxophonist who has successfully ducked in and out of the mainstream jazz tradition, Jon Irabagon works on Friday with an expeditious trio. . . . It features two generations of elders, the bassist Mark Helias and the drummer Barry Altschul. On Saturday, Mr. Irabagon will lead a quartet with Michael Formanek on bass, Tom Rainey on drums and an unbilled special guest. At 9 and 10:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street, Greenwich Village, 212-989-9319, corneliastreetcafe.com; $10 cover, with a $10 minimum. (Chinen)

Ches Smith Trio
Thursday, September 4, 2014

Just over a year ago the drummer Ches Smith convened this exploratory trio for the first time — not a left-field proposition, given that its other members, the violist Mat Maneri and the pianist Craig Taborn, have history with each other, and with him. Still, the group is likely to bring an agenda of fresh indeterminacy to this concert, which begins the fall season of the estimable Sound It Out series. At 8 p.m., Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow Street, West Village, 212-242-4770, greenwichhouse.org; $15, $12 for students. (Chinen)

★ John Zorn’s Masada: Angels at the Vanguard
Tuesday, September 2–Sunday, September 7, 2014

The composer, alto saxophonist and conceptual ringleader John Zorn has recently enjoyed a full flourishing of his music in previously unlikely places. . . . Next up is the Village Vanguard, where he’ll preside over a week-long exploration of his Book of Angels project, featuring a dozen different bands, including . . . a duo of Mark Feldman on violin and Sylvie Courvoisier on piano (Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.)
. . . and the cellist Erik Friedlander, in a solo set (Thursday at 8:30 p.m.). At 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., Village Vanguard, 178 Seventh Avenue South, at 11th Street, West Village, 212-255-4037, villagevanguard.com; $25 and $30 cover, with a one-drink minimum. (Chinen)

Here's the complete schedule, in which other ECM artists appear as well:

bluenoter, in the John Zorn thread in JT's Speakout forum, wrote:Image

Nate Chinen also gave a starred listing to the Ralph Alessi Baida Quartet's upcoming five-night engagement at Birdland, noted in #11.

ECM-centric excerpts from Nate Chinen's list:

Sylvie Courvoisier Trio
Monday, September 8, 2014

Sylvie Courvoisier is a pianist given to contemplative frictions, and [recently she's worked] with the same lean and responsive rhythm team that joins her here, featuring Drew Gress on bass and Kenny Wollessen on drums. At 8 p.m., Roulette, 509 Atlantic Avenue, near Third Avenue, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, 917-267-0363, roulette.org; $20, $15 for students and members. (Chinen)

★ Brad Mehldau
Tuesday, September 9–Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Mr. Mehldau — a leading jazz pianist of his generation, and a musical thinker of far-reaching ideals — plays two concerts next week. The first will be a solo recital; then he’ll connect in duo with the mandolinist Chris Thile. At 8 p.m., Harvey Theater, Brooklyn Academy of Music, 651 Fulton Street, Fort Greene, 718-636-4100, bam.org; $25 to $50. (Chinen)

★ Odean Pope, Pharoah Sanders, James Carter, Geri Allen & More
Tuesday, September 9–Sunday, September 14, 2014

The subtitle of this all-star summit could well have been “Saxophone Vesuvius,” given the shared aesthetic proclivities of Mr. Pope, Mr. Sanders and Mr. Carter. How they’ll manage not to blow each other off the stage is an open question. . . . What’s not in question is the responsive agility of their rhythm section, consisting of Ms. Allen, the bassist Reggie Workman and the drummer Jeff (Tain) Watts. At 8 and 10:30 p.m., Blue Note, 131 West Third Street, Greenwich Village, 212-475-8592, bluenote.net; $35 cover at tables, $20 at the bar, with a $5 minimum. (Chinen)

Thanks, Rita

The "plan" is to try for the 10/1 These Arches shows and 100% for the 10/4 shows specifically to see the three drummers set - something I've never seen listed. Plus it is three of the most mighty drummers in the world of jazz/improvised music.

Only possibility to miss the Saturday 10/4 sets is that the great Kris Davis band, Capricorn Climber is playing the same night @ Cornelia Street.

Capricorn Climber is Ms. Davis, Ingrid Laubrock, Trevor Dunn, Mat Maneri & Tom Rainey

It's my wife's choice!!!

Bless you, Steve, but I just spent a whole bunch of energy and money traveling. And so far, I haven't stayed in NYC for longer than two or three nights at a time. Don't forget, I haven't heard some of these musicians even on recordings, so it's not as if I need to see them in person. (I saw Capricorn Climber in DC and wasn't thrilled by its leader that night.)

Finally, I have to be here on Thursday, Oct. 2, which eliminates my chances of being there the previous night (for These Arches).
